The way to help the “soul of the nation” is one faithful step at a time. As the American government seeks to reinterpret her history devoid of Christian truth as a guide, she can never escape the reality that Christianity has played a significant role in the shaping of our nation. I call them the four pillars of American society:

Law

Christianity played a significant part in shaping the legal system of America, for our sense of justice is based on morality emanating from Judeo-Christian law derived from Scriptural truths.

Healing

The second role Christianity played in the shaping of our nation is through healing. You cannot drive through urban America without seeing Baptist Hospital, Lutheran Hospital, St. Dominic’s Hospital, Methodist Hospital, etc. Christians have been in the front as healers in America.

Education

Educational excellence is a pillar in our society due to Christian influence. Virtually all the Ivy League schools, except for Cornell and John’s Hopkins, have deep roots in Christianity. When you add to them the plethora of private Christian schools for every age level, you cannot extricate the magnitude of influence.

Giving

The fourth way Christianity has shaped our nation is through philanthropy—giving. In the top ten list of charitable givers in our nation, if you add numbers two through ten, they will not come near the sum total of what Christians, in the first place as charitable givers, annually give to the beneficiaries in our nation and world. Christians are givers!

Where would we be without these four pillars Christians have placed in American Society? The loss of those influences in our nation would be catastrophic!

The Role of Francis Asbury

In America’s best histories, Francis Asbury is noted as a primary shaper of the landscape of American Christian history. He radically identified with everyday people in every station of life; he loved people. He constantly traveled among them, and he taught them that “the one[s] who are free in Christ, are free indeed!” Moral freedom, made possible by the grace of God, is the witness of Asbury’s theology.

We at the Francis Asbury Society are still dedicated to the mission that was Francis Asbury’s. We advertise that we are a free Society of believers who covenant to receive, model, and share the transforming, sanctifying love of Christ for the redemption of the world. The soul of our nation still needs its pillars of law, healing, education, and giving. Christians are still needed to support them. And this support is founded in God’s soul-saving, heart-purifying message of love, the message that Francis Asbury dedicated his life to spreading throughout a fledgling nation. It is the highest hope and fiber of our nation and our world.

We feel that we urgently need charitable giving from people like you to help us carry out our mission of building the soul of Christian America. Will you help us continue to sow vitality in these days of trial? We need you!
