The typical nativity scene contains three wise men, but technically, the wise men were not at Jesus’s birth. They probably did not arrive until two years later. But did you know that the devil was there!? According to Revelation 12:4 there was a dragon who stood before Mary as she was about to give birth. His purpose was to devour the Christ child as soon as he was born. Since the Garden of Eden, he had done everything in his power to abort the coming of the Messiah. And even though Satan incited Herod to kill every Jewish boy under the age of two, which caused Joseph and Mary to flee to Egypt to preserve the life of the Savior, Satan failed once again.
Every light that blinks and every carol that is sung during the Christmas season taunts the devil. Don’t let him steal your joy this Advent! The Lord our Savior has come! Yes, the devil is still around, but we are now equipped to overcome him “by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of [our] testimony” (Rev 12:11).
