Matt Ayars

FAS Speaker

Dr. Matt Ayars is the president of Wesley Biblical Seminary in Jackson, MS. Previously, he served as the president and professor of Old Testament at Emmaus Biblical Seminary in Haiti.

Matt earned a B.A. degree in in 2006 (Bible and Theology) from Asbury University (Wilmore, KY), an M.A. degree in 2012 (Biblical Literature) from Wesley Biblical Seminary (Jackson, MS), and a Ph.D. in 2016 (Old Testament Studies) from St. Johns College of Nottingham.

Matt’s professional specialization is higher theological education and educational leadership. His primary academic expertise is in the Psalms and exegesis. His research interests include systematic theology, new perspectivism, Wesleyan soteriology, and biblical theology.

Matt is the author of numerous scholarly articles and books, including Salvation in Fresh Perspective: Covenant, Cross, and Kingdom (Wipf and Stock, 2015), Holy Is a Four-Letter Word Co-Authored with Dr. Charles Lake. (Wipf and Stock, 2015), and The Shape of Biblical Poetry: The Discourse Function of Linguistic Parallelism in the Egyptian Hallel. Studia Semitica Neerlandica Series (Leiden: Brill, 2018).

Matt is married and has four children.
